Preliminary Process Evaluation Feedback of the Wisconsin Certified Direct Care Provider Program

Research Objectives: The objective of this evaluation is to provide preliminary feedback on process evaluation of the CDCP program.

Design: This was a qualitative Key Informant Interview (KII) in which participants, sites, and stakeholders were interviewed following designated prompts.

Setting: All interviews were conducted via zoom.

Participants: Students who had taken courses (n=8), sites who were registered in the CDCP program (n=6), and community stakeholders such as designers and state personnel (n=4).

Interventions: The CDCP program is a self-paced online series of 8 modules covering various topic in caregiving.

Main Outcome Measures: The evaluation team sought to understand both positive and negative aspects of the CDCP program implementation.

Results: Generally, students had higher completion rates compared to employers. Participants found the program informative, helpful for skill development, and relevant to their roles. Specific topics mentioned include resident rights, medication management, and communication skills. Participants encountered challenges with the technology platform (e.g., Handshake, Canvas), time-consuming nature of the program, and lack of real-time feedback. Some also expressed concerns about the relevance of certain content. Participants had mixed experiences with the technology platforms used (e.g., Handshake, Canvas); some found them user-friendly, while others encountered technical difficulties. Some participants indicated they would recommend the program to others, while others expressed reservations due to various factors.

Conclusions: These preliminary process evaluation findings indicate that the CDCP program is well-received overall and also offered insights for improvements. Additional refinement is necessary in future iterations.
