Advanced Technologies for Neurorehabilitation: Robotics for Upper Extremity 4055

This symposium is a unique opportunity to engage with clinical, research and industry professionals working in the field of rehabilitation technology to learn about the theoretical and research evidence underpinning the application of different categories and types of robotic technologies in neurorehabilitation of the upper limb, and discuss practice and implementation issues and solutions. Robotic tools aim to provide high dose therapy, that is, high intensity, repetitive, and task-specific exercises that are considered essential for neuroplasticity and to promote motor recovery. Many robotic tools, broadly applying end effector and exoskeleton robots, have been developed, researched, and made commercially available over the past 40 years, with diverse functionalities to improve trunk/back, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand/finger range of motion, strength, coordination, mobility function, and activity participation. Demonstrations of and hands-on experiences with commercially-available technologies will facilitate understanding of the technologies and their applications in different clinical scenarios.
