Texas is the uninsured capital of the United States. More than 4.3 million Texans - including 623,000 children - lack health insurance. Texas' uninsurance rates, 1.75 times the national average, create significant problems in the financing and delivery of health care to all Texans. Those who lack insurance coverage typically enjoy far-worse health status than their insured counterparts.

Telehealth services offer significant benefits for patients, healthcare providers, and the healthcare system in the state of Texas, contributing to improved access, convenience, quality, and efficiency of care.

This symposium will engage the Texas State Association Leadership from Occupational and Physical Therapy and Speech Language and Hearing. The use of telehealth technologies in Texas prior to COVID 19 was limited both by regulatory language and practice adoption. Since COVID 19 which facilitated expanded practices services, policy and reimbursement, the Texas rehabilitation leadership is examining current benefits and barriers and compliance concerns.

  • • Upon completion, participant will be able to determine outcomes factors in developing telehealth programs in marginalized populations
  • • Upon completion, participant will be able to describe common barriers and benefits to telehealth services across various patient populations
  • • Upon completion, participant will be able to describe both ethical and competency issues as barriers to compliance to telehealth regulations
  • • Upon completion, participant will be able to list important policy and payment determinants of sustainable telehealth services
