Innovative Approaches to Telerehabilitation for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury 9577

Telehealth has emerged as a promising solution to expand access to specialized care. Research studies have found that telehealth offers benefits for patients and healthcare providers and may result in outcomes comparable to in-person care. This presentation will discuss approaches to telerehabilitation with particular focus on mild TBI (mTBI) and military populations. First, a scoping review characterizing the evidence for telehealth-delivered TBI interventions will be presented. Next, the development of an interdisciplinary telerehabilitation program for military service members and veterans with mTBI will be described, including key considerations and challenges faced. Following this, global outcomes of interdisciplinary telerehabilitation program participants will be described and compared to a cohort that received only in-person care. Finally, practical lessons learned will be discussed along with guidance on applying the rehabilitation treatment specification system (RTSS) to telehealth intervention selection and treatment planning in order to identify core ingredients and targets in mTBI rehabilitation.
