As injury-related pain becomes chronic, patients can develop habits that can contribute to pain and functional limitations, which often occur outside of the patient’s awareness. SEMG can be used to help identify signs of chronic pain-related muscle dysfunction and to bring dysfunctional habits into the patient’s awareness, improve the patient’s muscle control skills, and recalibrate” the patient’s perception of tension and relaxation. The presenter will provide some basic information about SEMG, how SEMG biofeedback has been incorporated within an interdisciplinary functional restoration program, and some patient examples.
