This symposium addresses the heightened fall risk in older adults with cognitive impairment due to impaired balance. We will explore how cognitive, sensory, and physical perturbations impact postural control. Assessments encompass single and dual-task conditions, sensory challenges like eyes open/closed, and physical maneuvers such as lean-and-release. Neurophysiological measures, including functional near-infrared spectroscopy and electroencephalography, will be correlated with center of pressure variables to potentially predict changes in postural control. By comprehensively examining these perturbations, the symposium aims to inform tailored interventions for reducing fall risk and enhancing independence in older adults with cognitive impairment.
