Accurately identifying and classifying patients with non traumatic SCI (ntSCI) sequalae poses significant difficulty as compared to traumatic spinal cord injury (tSCI) due to variations in presentation, multi-level involvement, overlap of ntSCI and tSCI conditions, and likelihood of existing comorbidities. This symposium will identify clinical implications of accurate identification and classification to support a shared language for future research and evidence-based practice both in the US and internationally. Presenters will discuss cross-organization guidelines and collaborations for future practice and research based on committees within ACRM, the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA), and the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS). Attendees will engage in case-based chart reviews to practice clinical classifications and develop shared problem-solving strategies.
