This session examines the impact of admission criteria for inpatient rehabilitation facilities on cancer patients' access to rehabilitation services. By analyzing the current policy implications and exploring potential adjustments, we aim to better address the needs of this population. Our study, situated within the US healthcare system and Medicare's reimbursement policies, will focus on policy evolution and its impact on cancer patients' rehabilitation journey. We will discuss proposed modifications, such as expanding eligible conditions to include cancer, and how they can improve accessibility and outcomes. Additionally, we will highlight the importance of aligning policies with initiatives like the Cancer Moonshot to enhance the quality of life. By the end of the session, attendees will be equipped to assess the impact of policy changes on admission rates, functional outcomes, and patient satisfaction. This will foster insightful discussions on critical policy reforms for optimizing cancer rehabilitation services.
