Many situations or health changes could have a trauma-like experience, such as the pandemic, cancer, spinal cord injury, or military experience. It is important to understand and develop post-traumatic growth (PTG), moving beyond who we were when we struggled with life-threatening conditions. PTG is more than resilience. This symposium will review the meaning of PTG, evaluation of post-traumatic symptoms/disorders and PTG measurement, and PTG facilitators and interventions applied to all of us during the pandemic, people with cancer, people with SCI, and people in the military.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss the difference between post-traumatic growth and resilience
Upon completion, participants will be able to identify diagnostic criteria changes within the DSM-IV, DSM-5 and DSM-5-TR, and identify multi-cultural factors and implications for assessment and treatment of PTSS and PTSD in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Upon completion, participants will be able to identify cross-cutting PTSS and PTSD prevalence rates for diagnostic cohorts in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss PTSS and PTSD and implications for clinical outcomes and implications for healthcare utilization.
Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss assessment and treatment integration of post-traumatic growth within Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss the difference between post-traumatic growth and resilience
