In the last several decades, there has been growing awareness of the impact of indirect exposure to trauma faced by healthcare providers and the resulting development of secondary traumatic stress (STS) symptoms. However, the prevalence and impact of STS specifically in burn care clinicians has not been examined thoroughly. This population is indirectly exposed to the traumatic circumstances of patients’ burn injuries, yet they are also tasked with conducting interventions that are often experienced as traumatic by patients, such as wound care and range of motion treatments. This presentation will review existing research on STS in burn care clinicians, present preliminary findings on prevalence of STS in this population, and review existing recommendations for prevention and intervention strategies for STS.

• Upon completion, participant will be able to describe existing research on STS, particularly as it pertains to burn care clinicians.
• Upon completion, participant will be able to explain preliminary findings on STS in this population, including relevant demographic and occupational factors.
• Upon completion, participant will be able to implement existing recommendations for prevention and intervention strategies as well as possible future directions in research and clinical care.
