Health-related quality of life can be adversely affected in the cancer population, which can impact multiple life domains including physical function, cognition, mental wellness and sexuality. As a result, it is imperative to be able to assess health related quality of life through patient reported outcome measures, to therefore, be able to assist patients with improving their health-related quality of life. The Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – General (FACT-G) is a well-supported outcome measure to utilize in the cancer population and addresses physical, social, emotional and functional well-being domains. The primary goal of this symposium is to discuss the effectiveness of efforts to improve HRQoL based on FACT-G outcomes within a cancer rehabilitation program at an inpatient rehabilitation hospital.

Learning Objectives:

Explore current literature related to Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in the cancer population.
Provide evidence for support of using the FACT-G in a cancer rehabilitation program.
Breakdown the implementation process for monitoring HRQoL via the FACT-G assessment.
Discuss program outcomes related to HRQoL and measures employed to target HRQoL across the interdisciplinary inpatient rehabilitation team.
Review current literature related to HRQoL in the cancer population.
