WHO estimates that 240 million annually require cognitive rehabilitation and numbers are rising. TBI is a major cause contributing to extensive and expensive cognitive rehabilitation. Therefore, cost-efficient treatments to address this global need are needed. In this presentation, we will integrate current evidence from machine learning and neurorehabilitation research aiming to characterize and manage chronic neuropsychological deficits while promoting a personalized approach to services. We will discuss how data science approaches through the use of machine learning methodologies can predict chronic neuropsychological outcomes by integrating acute injury, demographic and genetic data. Additionally, data supporting a combined approach using Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in conjunction with group social-cognitive communication intervention for self-awareness and social skills in survivors with brain injury and stroke will be presented. Finally, we will present data supporting intensive cognitive rehabilitation with the Categorization Program (CP), even at the chronic stage post brain injury.
