Professor of Pathology
Central Michigan University College of Medicine
Presently working as Professor of Pathology and course director at Central Michigan University College of Medicine. This includes teaching, lead faculty for interprofessional education, faculty development and curriculum delivery (participating in Curriculum planning, medical education research etc.). I have initiated and implemented a number of innovative teaching strategies that have improved student outcomes. My recent interest includes community outreach, health improvement and Healthy aging programs for older-adult population. My medical career began in India to become a board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist. I specialized in hematopathology and cytopathology. My career spanning three continents (Asia, Europe and North America) includes clinical practice, research and academic medicine. I have served as residency program director and supervised over 30 graduate MD dissertations. I have worked on the executive committee of International Academy of Pathology (Indian division) and have served as Editor and on editorial panels. I have authored and edited book chapters and have over 90 publications in peer reviewed journals medical education, clinical and bench research. I have been invited as a speaker and organiser to workshops/seminars including symposium at AACR, AMEE, World Congress on Lung Cancer, IAPM and WHO sponsored seminars.
I was awarded two World Health Organization (WHO) fellowships for Infectious disease (Royal Tropical Institute and Central Academy of Medicine at Amsterdam, Netherlands), and use of electron microscopy in diagnostic pathology (Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand). I am also a recipient of the American Association for Cancer Research-Aflac Cancer Research award, the Fellows Award for Research Excellence-NIH, and a Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Mentor-NIH. My research profile includes a fellowship at National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). My present research portfolio includes community-based projects for “healthy aging” and many major grant funded project in community health.
