Dr. Fei (Fiona) Zhao earned her doctoral degree from the University at Buffalo in June 2022 and currently works as a postdoctoral fellow in the Occupational Therapy Department at the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Wayne State University. She is actively involved in a research project titled "Mild Intermittent Hypoxia: A Prophylactic for Autonomic Dysfunction in Individuals With Spinal Cord Injuries." Dr. Zhao's research focuses on interventions for individuals with chronic conditions such as Spinal Cord Injury and Diabetes, exploring the underlying physiological mechanisms related to nerve system function, blood pressure control, muscle activation, and brain activity. Her areas of expertise include administering hypoxia protocols, conducting sleep tests, and utilizing Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) techniques to measure changes in oxygenation.
