Steve Fairbanks, PT, DPT, GCS is employed full-time at the Durham VA Medical Center. Steve earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 2010. He has practiced physical therapy in multiple settings including acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing, acute care, home health, outpatient, home-based primary care, and the emergency department. In 2017, he became a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Geriatric Physical Therapy. Steve has a special interest in prevention and treatment of falls and delirium. He serves as the chair of the Systemwide Interprofessional Falls Prevention Committee and facilitated the hospital-wide rollout of the Tailored Interventions for Patient Safety falls prevention program. Steve helped expand geriatric physical therapy services at the Durham VA into the emergency department as part of the GeriVet and SCOUTS programs. He presented professionally regarding his on his work in the ED during Combined Sections Meeting in Boston, MA in February 2024.
