Cecília N. Prudente, PT/PhD, is a physical therapist and neuroscientist with over 23 years of experience in neurorehabilitation research. Most of her experience has been in applying neurophysiological methods to investigate the mechanisms of movement disorders and to explore new treatment strategies for these conditions. Dr. Prudente was involved in the first human study of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) paired with upper limb rehabilitation in chronic ischemic stroke in the United States (Kimberley et al, 2018); as a therapist in the trial, she was one of the first PTs to deliver Paired VNS therapy to stroke individuals. Since then, Dr. Prudente has joined MicroTransponder, Inc. (maker of the Vivistim Paired VNS™ System) and has been focused on the development of the therapy and clinical studies, including the Pivotal trial (VNS-REHAB) that led to the FDA approval for Paired VNS in stroke.
