Research Health Scientist

Dr. Mohanty is an epidemiologist and health services researcher. Her research interests include addressing health and healthcare inequities, primarily in cardiometabolic and other chronic health conditions by applying her expertise in epidemiology and training in biomedical informatics and implementation science methods. Her primary research position is at the Salt Lake City VA-Informatics, Decision-Enhancement and Analytic Sciences Center as a Research Health Scientist. Dr. Mohanty recently completed a VA Career Development Award and currently leads as PI or corresponding PI two VA Investigator Initiated Research (R01 level) grants. She also has been successfully funded by industry, NIH, and the FDA-Office of Minority Health and Health Equity. Her current VA research spans identifying and addressing health inequities in blood pressure control, in defining and treating acute and long COVID-19, and evaluating and improving care for military environmental exposures. Dr. Mohanty previously taught the University of Utah epidemiology introductory course and serves as a mentor for several early-stage investigators. Since 2020, she has served as Co-Director of the Utah Health Equity Leadership and Mentoring Program (U-HELM). In 2022, Dr. Mohanty was appointed as inaugural Vice Chair for Inclusion in the Department of Internal Medicine for the University of Utah (UU) Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine. She is also a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Epidemiology, Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Mohanty is engaged in inclusion efforts through the UU, professional societies, including the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and the Veterans Health Administration. Dr. Mohanty completed the 2023 Healthcare Executive Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program of the AAMC.
