Bani Malhotra, Ph.D., ATR-BC is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She currently serves as an interventionist for the Resources for Enhancing All Caregivers’ Health--REACH-TBI project, an evidence-based, personalized, telehealth intervention study for caregivers of veterans/service members with TBI, funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Her research focuses on psychological and social aspects of recovery and rehabilitation from injury and illness, particularly using arts and art therapy. Certified by the Art Therapy Credentials Board, Inc, as an art therapist clinician, she has had extensive experience working in various medical, forensic, and psychiatric settings. As a research assistant, she has assisted on studies examining the outcomes of art therapy for military service members with PTSD and TBI; and examining aging and demographic differences in Gulf War Illness funded by National Endowment for Arts and Department of Defense. Dr. Malhotra has published peer-reviewed journal articles related to military service members, arts and art therapy participation, and psychosocial coping.
