Janine Farragher is a registered occupational therapist with a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Toronto. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Calgary with the Interdisciplinary Chronic Disease Collaboration research group.
Janine’s research is focused on developing self-management interventions to enable occupation in people with complex chronic diseases, with a particular interest in applying an occupational lens to understand chronic kidney disease and dialysis treatment, and in using technology-based solutions to address clients’ needs. To this end, she has led the development and testing of a web-based energy management program (The “PEP” Program) to promote fatigue management for people on chronic hemodialysis. Janine is also interested in understanding the range of other factors (including cognitive, psychosocial, and environmental) that impact occupation in chronic kidney disease, and other complex geriatric chronic diseases.
Janine uses a variety of research methodologies, including scoping reviews, single-case experiments, pilot trials, usability studies, randomized controlled trials, and mixed-methods studies, to inform intervention development. She aims to incorporate stakeholder engagement and consultation throughout the research process to maximize knowledge translation and uptake.
