Lisa Reber, PhD is a Senior Science Researcher at the School of Public Health at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She is a qualitative methodologist with a degree in Justice Studies (aka social justice). Her doctoral research explored emotional well-being and socio-spatial marginalization as experienced by low-wage migrant workers from sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. As a research fellow with the University of Michigan’s Center for Disability Health & Wellness (CDHW), she explored the physical, social and attitudinal environments and how they marginalize populations with long-term physical disabilities. At UT Southwestern, her research centers on cancer patients and survivors and their care. Her research interests include social justice, structural inequalities, and vulnerability among disadvantaged communities, the interplay between such factors as race, gender, SES, nationality, disability, and migration status, and the role of privilege in creating inequities.
