Dr. Dillingham is the William J. Erdman II, Professor and Chair for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pennsylvania.
He attended the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington where he earned his medical degree in 1986. He completed his internship and residency in rehabilitation medicine at the University of Washington in 1990 and earned a Master of Science degree in gait biomechanics. Dr. Dillingham is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Following his training, Dr. Dillingham served for four years in the United States Army at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington, D.C. Upon completing his military service in 1994, Dr. Dillingham joined the Department of PM&R at Johns Hopkins University. In 2003, he assumed the Chairmanship of the Department of PM&R at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Dillingham has won three resident teaching awards during his career. His research interests have encompassed electrodiagnostic medicine, prosthetic engineering, and rehabilitation health services use and outcomes. He has received federal funding from both the VA and NIH for his investigative work over the past 17 years.
Dr. Dillingham has been active in the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) for more than 20 years. He served as board member, Chairman of the Research Committee, and has lectured and served as a board examiner for many years. In 2010, Dr. Dillingham was elected President of the AANEM and served in that capacity from 2010 to 2011. In 2010 he was awarded the Distinguished Researcher Award by the AANEM. Currently, Dr. Dillingham chairs the Normative Data Taskforce.
