Steve Zuckerman is a seasoned executive who has led in both the business and non-profit sectors, helping to build organizations to make the world a better place. He is also the husband for 34 years of Debra Meyerson, who was forced from her professorship at Stanford by a severe stroke; Steve was Debra's primary carepartner early in recovery, and is now partnering with her to build Stroke Onward, a nonprofit they co-founded in 2019 to catalyze systems change in the stroke care system to ensure survivors and families receive support for the critical, but often overlooked, effort to rebuild identity in the recovery journey.
Steve is also Co-founder and past President of Self-Help Federal Credit Union, part of the broader Self-Help family of organizations, a nationally recognized Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) founded in 1980. With almost $5 billion in assets, Self-Help has invested more than $11 billion in 160,000 families, businesses and non-profits to support growth low income communities and help families break the inter generational cycle of poverty.
Steve's previous work experience includes 14 years with McCown De Leeuw & Co. (MDC), a private investment firm based in Menlo Park, CA., and several years in the Boston office of Bain & Company. He has consistently served on dozens of non-profit boards and advisory boards pursuing economic justice, health justice and youth development. He is a graduate of Stanford Business School (MBA) and Yale University, married 34 years to Debra Meyerson, and the proud parent of three adult kids ages 35, 32 and 29.
