Dr. Kiser is a researcher scientist working under contract for General Dynamics Information Technology in support of the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence (TBICoE). His research on traumatic brain injury (TBI) in service members and veterans has addressed various topics such as examination of tools for assessing cognitive function, evaluation of the translation of TBI research findings into clinical practice, assessment of the role of patient and provider compliance with recommendations on patient outcomes, and systematic review of the effect of blast injury on patient outcomes. Dr. Kiser’s role in these studies has involved formulating hypotheses, determining appropriate methodologies, designing metrics, analyzing and interpreting study data, and preparing manuscripts and reports. Prior to joining TBICoE, he conducted research focused on learning, memory, and cognition as an Advanced Fellow and Principal Investigator at the Washington DC VA Medical Center. Additionally, Dr. Kiser served as a Co-Investigator at the MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital investigating trans-cranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) as an intervention for upper-extremity motor rehabilitation after stroke. Beyond research, he maintains an adjunct faculty appointment at The Catholic University of America where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses, manages multidisciplinary research collaborations, and consults on course curriculum.
