Cindy Nowinski, MD, PhD is Research Professor, Departments of Medical Social Sciences and Neurology, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Nowinski is a health services researcher, clinical psychologist, and physician. Her research focuses on improving health and healthcare quality through the development and application of person-reported and performance-based health outcome measures to clinical research and care. She is particularly interested in cognitive aging, neurological conditions and the intersection of digital technology and assessment.
Dr. Nowinski has extensive experience in developing person-report and performance-based assessments, serving as co-Investigator on measure development and validation initiatives such as Neuro-QoL (Quality of Life in Neurological Disorders), ARMADA: Advancing Reliable Measurement in Alzheimer’s Disease and cognitive Aging, MobileToolbox for Monitoring Cognitive Function and the NIH Toolbox® for Assessment of Neurological and Behavioral Function (NIH Toolbox) initiative which developed multiple adult measures of cognitive, motor, sensory and emotional health outcomes in English and Spanish. She is currently principal investigator on three studies seeking to improve the detection of cognitive impairment in primary care through the implementation and evaluation of brief, EHR-integrated, self-administered cognitive screening assessments available on smartphones and tablets.
