Prior to obtaining advanced degrees, Dr. Stoykov had extensive experience as an occupational therapy clinician at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (now known as the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab). Her interests are in clinical research including upper limb assessment for individuals post-stroke, neural priming, bimanual therapy, bimanual conflict, and investigation of the underlying neural mechanisms associated with improvements in severe post-stroke hemiparesis. She has collaborated with many engineers studying post-stroke rehabilitation treatment techniques and neural mechanisms. Dr. Stoykov was a fellow of the Summer Institute on Randomized Behavioral Clinical Trials sponsored by OBSSR at NIH and is currently completing an NIH funded clinical trial examining bilateral priming plus task specific training for individuals with severe upper limb hemiparesis. Her work has been funded by NIH, American Heart Association, and the American Occupational Therapy Foundation. She is a Research Scientist in the Arms & Hands Lab at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and a Research Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University.
