Dr. Swapna Balakrishnan is a licensed physical therapist (DPT) and a board-certified clinical specialist in neurologic physical therapy. She is a PhD Candidate at the University of Vermont. Dr. Balakrishnan’s research is primarily focused on utilizing wearable technologies such as wearable sensor data and geospatial data to monitor long-term mobility and physical activity outcomes among adults with stroke and other neurological conditions. Her other research interests include understanding biomarkers of walking recovery after stroke, developing interventions to promote locomotor recovery among adults with neurological conditions, health promotion and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in physical therapy practice. She is actively involved as a reviewer for the stroke special interest group (SIG) and as the Digital communications committee (DCC) representative for the Academy of Neurologic Physical therapy (ANPT).
