Assistant Professor of Clinical Occupational Therapy
University of Southern California
South Pasadena, CA, United States
Ella Wilson, a Doctor of Occupational Therapy and AOTA Fellow of Physical Rehabilitation, is a practicing occupational therapist at Keck Medical Center of USC and faculty of the University of Southern California. Working across the continuum of care, Ella specializes in the acute rehabilitation unit and the outpatient cardiopulmonary rehabilitation setting, employing an in-depth understanding of how body systems and functions drive upstream barriers to occupational participation to best meet the unique needs of patients. During her doctoral residency at Keck Medicine of USC, Ella focused on treating two distinct populations: individuals with Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 and those undergoing lung transplantation. She served as the occupational therapy consultant at Keck Medicine's COVID Recovery Clinic, facilitating access to rehabilitative services for individuals with long COVID, and playing a crucial role in the interdisciplinary team at the Covid Recovery Clinic. Ella employed a blended model of Lifestyle Redesign® and physical rehabilitation, both online and in-person, to address the complex health issues of patients with advanced pulmonary disease and Post-COVID Syndrome. Throughout her residency, Ella engaged in various knowledge mobilization efforts, including delivering national occupational therapy-provider education, sponsored by the American Occupational Therapy Association, creating patient education materials for use by occupational therapists and physicians, and presenting on hospital-based considerations for Post-Covid Syndrome within the Keck Medicine occupational therapy department. As a clinical faculty member at USC, she has also presented at state and national levels on the role of occupational therapy in the lung transplant and post-COVID populations.
