Eileen Garcia is the Occupational Therapy Clinical Specialist and Student Coordinator at Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center (KFRC) with 18 years of experience helping patients with neurological disorders. While experienced in treating patients with all types of diagnoses, she has a passion for working with patients with spinal cord injury and specializes in assistive technology and seating and mobility. As an Occupational Therapist, she genuinely enjoys having to think outside of the box to help her patients gain autonomy and independence in various aspects of their lives. Throughout the years, Eileen has been a key player in the professional growth and development of her colleagues at KFRC by presenting on several topics including but not limited to adaptive equipment, smart home technologies, upper extremity robotics, and COVID recovery when the pandemic first began. She has also been a leader in the introduction of innovative technologies to the Occupational Therapy Department that improve patients’ quality of life and optimize their independence. She is responsible for the design and implementation of a Smart Home Technology Apartment at the KRFC that educates patients and their families in various Smart Home Technology devices that can increase their independence and decrease caregiver burden. One of her favorite things to say to patients is, “It doesn’t have to be pretty; it just has to be functional. We can work on pretty later. “
