Teaching and learning to deliver compassionate care is complex; following assessment and accurate diagnosis, students must learn to provide person-specific, multidisciplinary care management. Adaptive expertise is required to address fragmented patient care and individualized care plans. Furthermore, the healthcare environment is ever-changing including rapidly changing research, technologies, medical management, staff retention, and healthcare reimbursement. These present a challenge to healthcare professionals, educators and mentors to find a way to advance practicing clinicians in condensed time frames of structured educational programs.  This symposium will target at addressing the complexity of Integrated Design-based Research for Knowledge Translation.

Learning Objectives:

• Discuss the importance of effectively integrating learning theories, concepts, and tools to aide in knowledge translation to fit within the time constraints of a fellowship or residency.
• Recognize evidence based strategies within an Occupational Therapy fellowship to enhance fellows’ clinical reasoning and decision making skills leading to effective care transitions
• Utilize the spiral design concept to develop an adaptive education tool and solve clinical education problems
• Illustrate participatory research approaches to help create your own sustainable, efficient, and effective education research project
• Discuss the importance of effectively integrating learning theories, concepts, and tools to aide in knowledge translation to fit within the time constraints of a fellowship or residency.
