Rehabilitation has frequently been described as the “black box” due to the lack of clear ways to describe treatments. The Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System (RTSS) was developed to be used as a standardized framework for defining rehabilitation treatments. This session will provide an overview of the RTSS and discuss how the RTSS can be used in education, clinical care, and research.

Learning Objectives:

• Articulate at least two reasons why current methods of describing rehabilitation interventions are insufficient.
• Apply treatment classification guidelines as articulated by the Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System (RTSS, a formally developed procedure for describing treatments) to enhance clinical reasoning and critical thinking.
• Reflect on opportunities to implement the RTSS (e.g., document, communicate) in research, education, and practice.
• Articulate at least two reasons why current methods of describing rehabilitation interventions are insufficient.
