Persons with TBI including V/SM have ongoing healthcare needs across physical, mental health, and rehabilitation types of care. This symposium describes a large national study to identify determinants (factors that facilitate or hinder) to meeting the needs of persons with TBI that were identified by stakeholders across healthcare systems including DOD, VA, and community care. Qualitative interviewing was used to identify factors associated with meeting the needs of persons with TBI. This approach led to an unbiased way of identifying these factors. Individual interviews and focus groups were conducted with DOD Key Informants (policymakers), VA Case Managers (coordinates all care needs) recruited across the VA polytrauma system of care (across rural and urban settings), VA Key Informants (Rehabilitation policymakers), and Civilian providers, key informants, and state-level policymakers implementing TBI-related waiver programs.
