Colleen Frayne, MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-S received her Masters in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the MGH Institute of Health professions in 2005. She completed her Clinical Fellowship in the adult acute care setting at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. Colleen is currently a Clinical Specialist at NYU Langone Health- Rusk Rehabilitation on the acute inpatient neurorehabilitation unit, with a focus in stroke, TBI and progressive neurological conditions. She has a clinical interest and expertise in dysphagia and complex medical patients and obtained board certification in swallowing in 2014.
Colleen has participated in published research on varied topics including investigating the impacts of a structured oral care program on reduction of hospital wide pneumonia rates, predictors of PEG placement in patients with severe dysphagia from acute-subacute hemispheric infarction, the effects of non-invasive brain stimulation on stroke induced dysphagia and the outcomes of neuromuscular electrical stimulation on dysphagia in the head and neck cancer population. She has participated in the development and initiation of a hospital wide oral care protocol and development of a Respiratory Muscle Strength Program with a focus in the acute phases of acquired brain injury. She has presented at both the state and national levels on varied topics in the areas of dysphagia and cognitive-communication impairments. Colleen has also served as a clinical instructor for graduate SLP students as well as clinical fellows.
