Kelly A. Atkins, M.S., CCC-SLP, is the Manager of Speech-Language Pathology at Northwell Health's Glen Cove Hospital in Glen Cove, New York. She graduated with a Master's of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Adelphi University in 2012. She has 12 years of clinical experience in Medical Speech-Language Pathology, working across multiple clinical settings including acute care, acute rehabilitation, and subacute rehabilitation. Her area of expertise is in the evaluation and treatment of neurologic communication and swallowing disorders with an emphasis on dysphagia evaluation, management, and treatment. She has obtained clinical training and competence in performing both Modified Barium Swallow Studies and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Studies of Swallowing. She has completed certifications in AmpCare, providing NMES treatment for dysphagia, and SpeakOUT, for the delivery of interventions to address the specific needs of those living with Parkinson's Disease. Kelly has provided clinical supervision to students as well as clinical fellows, and, in her current role as manager, provides mentorship and clinical guidance to her 21 therapist team. Kelly has worked with two clinical teams in both the inpatient acute rehab and subacute rehab settings to obtain CARF accreditation, with the latter being the first Subacute Rehabilitation Facility in New York State to obtain the distinction. She has received the "Truly Innovative" and "Truly Together" designation from the interdisciplinary team in 2023 through Northwell Health. Kelly is dedicated to providing exceptional care to patients and their families, keeping in mind the emerging focus of clinical ethics, patient autonomy in care planning, and the importance of the consideration of patient's quality of life when determining their goals of care.
