Dr. Jernigan is the Associate DPT Program Director for the Department of Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science and Athletic Training at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). He teaches foundational courses (Applied Anatomy and Applied Kinesiology) and coordinates interprofessional education in the DPT program. His research focus is education research as the director of the LEARN (Leveraging Education And Research Now) Lab and a lead for the Assessment and Scholarship Committee of KUMC’s Center for Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research. He participated in GAMER (Grantsmanship and Mentorship in Education Research) in 2019 and completed the Fellowship for Higher Education Leadership in 2023, both with the American Physical Therapy Association. He is also passionate about interprofessional education and effective debriefing to maximize learning in any educational environment and has consulted and educated on these topics nationally. Dr. Jernigan is a Distinguished Scholar and Fellow of the National Academies of Practice and has received multiple awards for excellence in teaching.
