Dr. Carey Pawlowski, PhD, ABPP is a board-certified rehabilitation psychologist who earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has worked in the field of brain injury for over 27 years, and she has extensive training and experience in rehabilitation psychology, neuropsychology, geropsychology, trauma treatment, and behavioral pain management. Dr. Pawlowski completed her doctoral psychology internship at the VA New Mexico Health Care System in Albuquerque, New Mexico and her clinical postdoctoral fellowship at the VA Pittsburgh Health Care System in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She then spent five years on staff at The Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City before moving in 2008 into her current position as an attending rehabilitation psychologist at the Palo Alto VA Health Care System in Palo Alto, California with both the Polytrauma Transitional Rehabilitation Program (for active duty service members and Veterans with moderate to severe brain injury) as well as the Intensive Evaluation and Treatment Program (for Special Operations Forces active duty service members with mild TBI and concomitant behavioral health concerns). She maintains Principal Investigator status through the VA Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research and Stanford University IRB, as well as serving as the Chief Clinical Consultant for TBI Model Systems. Dr. Pawlowski has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and has presented at a variety of national and international conferences including the American Psychological Association, the Society for Psychotherapy Research, North American Brain Injury Society, and the National Academy of Neuropsychology. She has also won several national awards, including Outstanding Supervisor and Mentor Award through the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 18 -Psychologists in Public Service and the Mentoring Award through APA Division 22 - Rehabilitation Psychology.
