Specialist nurse in diabetes and patient's education
Montserrat Castellsague Perolini obtained a nursing degree from the University of Barcelona and in 1985 began working at the University Hospitals of Geneva, where she specialized in emergency care. In 1991, she became head of Professor Assal's Chronic Disease Treatment and Education Unit and completed diabetes nurse educator training. In 1995, she developed the role of specialized nurse to train people of all ages who live with diabetes. In 2008 she obtained a specialization in Therapeutic Education, creating training programs for professionals and managing research programs that were published and won several awards. From 2013 to 2017 she worked in research on monogenic diabetes with Dr. Schwitzgebel. Since 2017, he has shared 30% of her time working in the Tropical Medicine and Humanitarian Service, leading several diabetes training projects in several countries in Africa and Latin America, among others. From 2018 to 2022 she participates in the development of a “Massive Open Online Course”, a MOOC aimed at patients who need insulin treatment. Montserrat is very committed to helping people living with diabetes and for 30 years she has participated in sports camps for children, adolescents and young people with diabetes.
