Dr Sigiriya Aebischer Perone is a senior medical doctor specialised in internal, tropical and travel medicine. Between 1999 and 2004 she worked as a clinician in Senegal, Benin, Zimbabwe and as a health program coordinator in the Balkans before joining the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 2007.
She now works at the ICRC Health Unit as well as in the Tropical and Humanitarian Medicine Division of the Geneva University Hospitals, allowing them to address jointly common challenges regarding non-communicable disease management in low- and middle-income countries and humanitarian emergencies.
She coordinated and developed with the Geneva university hospitals and the ICRC, in collaboration with D-foot international, the Université Numérique Francophone and MSF an interprofessional blended training on the management of persons living with diabetes. Currently she is involved in training, research and supports the management of non-communicable diseases in different countries of the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe.
