Atul Jaiswal is a trained occupational therapist and a rehabilitation social worker with more than a decade of experience in the field of disability rehabilitation. He obtained his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science from Queen’s University. While his doctoral thesis focused on identifying ways to enhance the social participation of individuals with deafblindness, his postdoctoral research explored the impact of COVID-19 on access to healthcare for older Canadians with dual sensory loss (DSL). His research scholarship aims to advance the knowledge in the field of rehabilitation to promote equity, occupational justice, and social participation for individuals with DSL. He has published over 51 peer-reviewed publications and presented at 72 national and international health and rehabilitation conferences. Over the last five years, he has delivered 51 invited lectures at 15 universities across the globe. He is co-leading a team of 52 researchers and clinicians from 12 countries, including Australia, Canada, India, Spain, the UK, and the USA, to develop the International Classification of Functioning Core Sets for DSL to develop standardized assessments and clinical guidelines to be used by 144 WHO member countries. He also serves as an Academic Category Member of the Accessibility Standards Canada’s Technical Committees on the Outdoor Spaces and as an Academic Editor for PLOS ONE. He has been one of the Board members of the Canadian Society of Occupational Scientists to promote occupational science scholarship within OT Schools in Canada and abroad.
