I am a professor and the department head of physical therapy at Louisiana State University Helath Science Center at New Orleans. As the course director, I have taught Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Pathology, Pharmacology, Diagnostic Imaging including diagnostic sonography for musculoskeletal system, evidence-based practice in physical therapy, and geriatric physical therapy for over 20 years. During these years, as a licensed physical therapist, I have worked as a therapist per diem mainly in geriatric settings and rehab centers for patients with geriatric and neurodegenerative disorders including Parkinson disease (PD). Tai Chi or Tai chi component exercise with deep diaphragmatic breathing coordinated with body part movement is always one of commonly used exercise programs for my patients.
Also, I am one of Physical Therapy Scholars trained by PD foundation with specialty in treating patients with PD. My research is focused on geriatric and neurodegenerative dysfunctions by using conventional physical therapy as well as alternative therapies such as Tai Chi. I have learned and practiced Tai Chi over 30 years. In summary, as a clinic research scholar with credentials in Medicine, Neuroanatomy, Human Anatomy, and Physical Therapy, I have the expertise, leadership, training, expertise, and motivation necessary to successfully carry out the proposed research project.
