Dr. Amy Bala, Ed.D., PT, DPT, WCC, CWS, FACCWS, is an Assistant Professor for the DPT program at Governors State University (Gov State) who teaches a variety of didactic material related to evidence-informed practice, integumentary, cardiopulmonary, leadership, and patient interactions. Her research interests include mindfulness, leadership, interprofessional collaboration, wound care, and education. Dr. Bala is a licensed physical therapist who has been practicing for 21 years. she is a Certified Wound Specialist through multiple associations, a Fellow of the American College of Certified Wound Specialists, and an Advanced Clinical Instructor from the American Physical Therapy Association. Dr. Bala earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1999, her Master's in Physical Therapy degree from Midwestern University in 2003, her transitional Doctor in Physical Therapy degree from Gov State in 2017, and her Doctor of Education Degree in Interdisciplinary Leadership from Gov State in 2024. She serves on various committees for the Illinois Physical Therapy Association, the Academy of Clinical Electrophysiology and Wound Management, and Gov State. Before joining Gov State’s faculty, she worked as a full-time Physical Therapist for sixteen years in inpatient and outpatient wound care, acute care, and inpatient rehabilitation in Chicagoland Hospital. She has been blessed to work on interdisciplinary healthcare teams throughout her career and hopes to continue such work in the future.
