Dr. Dekerlegand received his Master’s in Physical Therapy from Allegheny University (now Drexel University) located in Philadelphia, PA, USA. His clinical experience has spanned the spectrum of cardiovascular and pulmonary illnesses in the adult population with a primary specialty in acute care and adults with cystic fibrosis (CF). He is a Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Clinical Specialist certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties since 2003 and has presented numerous times at the local and international level in the areas of adult cystic fibrosis and cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy. Dr. Dekerlegand received his PhD from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in 2014 where he researched inspiratory muscle strength relative to disease severity in adults with CF and has published the results of his work in the Journal of Cystic Fibrosis and the Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal. He is a contributing author to “CF 101 for Physical Therapists” document that is used in the United States CF Foundation’s PT mentoring program. In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Dekerlegand is continues to practice acute care physical therapy (PT) with Good Shepherd Penn Partners at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and maintains an affiliation with the Adult CF Center at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center.
