Graduate Student Researcher
University of Pittsburgh
Haomin (Leon) Hu is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Health Information Management at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt). Haomin's research focuses on technology-enabled health solutions, including digital health and Large Language Models, to support individuals with chronic diseases and their caregivers.
Haomin has a multi-disciplinary background in computer science, electronic engineering, big data, and rehabilitation science. His academic training has given me the knowledge to take advantage of technology in the healthcare field. His dissertation research is to develop a multi-component mHealth app to support family caregivers of individuals with spinal cord injury and cancer survivors. Haomin has also been working on several technology-enabled interventions to help populations with various diseases, including 1) individuals with Raynaud symptoms, 2) postpartum women with overweight/obesity, and 3) children with anxiety and Down syndrome. Besides research and programming, Haomin plays a role in the lab that administers the projects (e.g., staffing and logistics) and coordinates and collaborates with clinicians to facilitate the progress. The developer internship in the HIM HARI lab in 2018 motivated him to research in this interdisciplinary field. The one-year job inspired him to believe that health care could be one of the prior fields where technologies could be in practice.
