Madelief Tilder is a graduate student in the Georgia State University’s Department of Sociology and a research assistant at the Shepherd Center, focusing her research on determinants of health. Madelief has played a key role in research for criminal legal reform, working with the Georgia State University Prison Education Project and the Georgia Coalition for Higher Education in Prisons. Additionally, Madelief has conducted extensive research on living conditions in low-income housing in metropolitan Atlanta, and Mellon Foundation-funded research on healthcare and disability resource navigation for Afghan immigrants and refugees. Her current work explores social determinants of health for disabled populations, with a heavy focus on factors that impede rehabilitation.
