My research interests include improving health system outcomes by engaging stakeholders and leveraging informatics. I have expertise in using health services research methods such as systematic reviews and mixed methods to study rehabilitation outcomes, e.g., discharge planning, functional outcomes, and rehabilitation utilization.
As a co-investigator on a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research, an AHRQ-funded grant, I engaged stakeholders to uncover their preferences in screening mammograms and rehabilitation utilization post-stroke. My work on stakeholder engagement also involves co-leading a stroke peer engagement group with a community partner, Ruven and Leah Surall called the “Young and the Restless of Atlanta (YnR). In this regard, I received two pilot grants from Emory University to understand minority stroke survivors’ barriers to accessing post-acute care services. As a NIDILRR Switzer Merit Fellow, I examined rehabilitation utilization among people with pressure injuries in skilled nursing facilities. I am a part of the steering committee and members at the Georgia Department of Public Health and the Department of Neurology at Emory University to develop the Georgia post-acute care stroke outcomes registry. I have utilized several large data sources, such as Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Model Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center- SCI data, to explore outcomes among individuals with spinal cord injury. I have also used other data sources such as Medicare, Hispanic EPESE, and EHRs to explore health outcomes across the care continuum. I serve as a Co-I on an NIH STTR grant to evaluate the implementation of Quality Decisions across 3 hospitals in the United States using the RE-AIM implementation science framework. I received the Centers for Health Services Research Faculty fellowship from the American Physical Therapy Association for two years in 2022.
I received the Learning Health Systems Rehabilitation Research Network (LeaRRn) Scholar in 2021. As a part of the LeaRRn program, I developed an implementation plan and implemented functional outcome measures in Boston Medical Center’s outpatient clinic
