Dr. Hughes is fellowship trained in sports medicine, learning from the country’s best at medical institutions around the country. Throughout his training, Dr. Hughes served as the team physician for the St. Louis Rams football team, the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, and the St. Louis Blues hockey team.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Hughes is involved in the research and development of medical devices and serves as an advisor to new media, several medical companies, and the College of San Mateo, a two-year community college in his city of practice. With a passion for helping others, he dedicates many hours working with the underserved and less fortunate members of the San Mateo community and surrounding area. Dr. Hughes has a reputation for going above and beyond for his patients, making special house calls to the elderly and children with special needs. Dr. Hughes has traveled as far as Australia and Hong Kong to perform cutting-edge surgeries.
Dr. Hughes obtained his undergraduate degree in physics from UCLA, graduating summa cum laude and first in his class. He went on to attended the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. He was chief resident at George Washington University Medical School in Washington, D.C. during his residency and was recognized by the Washington, D.C. Orthopedic Society for creating the top research paper.
At his San Mateo orthopedic practice, Dr. Hughes offers the latest in minimally invasive surgical techniques, including arthroscopies and computer-assisted surgical techniques. He is dedicated to assisting his patients through surgical and nonsurgical treatment to address chronic pain in the back, hips, and knees. He has over a decade of experience in regenerative medicine with same day out patient procedures with platelet rich plasma and bone marrow concentrate with local anesthetic.
