Dr. Lorena Paul is a certified ambulatory care nurse and Assistant Professor within the School of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. Degrees and credentials include DNP Public Health Nursing Leadership from University of Massachusetts, Amherst; MSN Nursing Education from Walden University; MEd Adult Education from the University of Mississippi; and ambulatory care nursing certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Recent government-funded grant projects relate to telehealth, primary care, and public health promotion in urban and rural communities. Community nursing practice and research interests include interprofessional education and service learning, telehealth, health promotion, advanced care planning, disaster management, and primary care medical homes. Over 40 years of clinical experience span the healthcare continuum, including inpatient care, ambulatory surgery, primary care, health promotions, U.S. military healthcare leadership and contract administration (resource management; appeals and grievances), utilization management (i.e., case management, demand management, disease management, utilization review); and disaster preparedness and management. Professional organization memberships include the American Public Health Association, the National League for Nursing, American Nurses Association, Association of Community Health Educators, American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau, and American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
