Dr. Dora Ifon is a Nurse Practitioner at the Richmond VA, Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Service, and an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA. Dr. Ifon completed her Master of Science degree at the University of Maryland in the Adult-Gerontological Primary Care program in 2006 and obtained board certification as an Adult-Gerontological Primary Care Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in Washington, DC. She obtained her Ph. D. in Nursing from the Catholic University of America, Washington DC, in 2016, and 2022 she obtained a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Research from the Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia Health Sciences Division. Her research interest is in bone health. In 2021, she received the VA Rehabilitation Research and Development Career Development (CDA-1) award to investigate the effects of electrical stimulation and vitamin D supplementation on bone health following spinal cord injury under the mentorship of Dr. Ashraf Gorgey, Director of Spinal Cord Injury Research at the Richmond VA Medical Center. Her study aimed at mitigating bone fractures in persons with spinal cord injury, and ultimately improving their quality of life. Dr. Ifon has served as a reviewer for Spinal Cord-Nature, the official journal of the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS), and she has published in peer-reviewed journals.
