Health services research has an essential role in mitigating the disparities that are experienced by persons with disabilities. This symposium presents methodologies, data sources and research findings for three populations that experience the intersectionality of disability with other known health disparities (e.g., race, rurality, insurance status, access). Outcomes of cardiac, stroke, and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation studies contribute to a better understanding of the challenges and point the way to improved health care and public health delivery models. Data sources (e.g., claims, assessments), methodological approaches, the strengths, and limitations for studying disparities will be discussed. The symposium will close with a brief overview of funding strategies to support health services research focused on disability, rehabilitation, and disparities using cancer rehabilitation as an example.

• Explain the impact of race, insurance, and rural/urban status on cardiac rehabilitation.
