Dr. Michael Brown is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at the University at Buffalo (UB). Since graduating with his DPT in 2005 from UB, he has pursued his clinical interests in treating patients with a variety of acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders. In 2011, Dr. Brown pursued teaching in higher education, when he became a full-time faculty member at Daemen College in addition to practicing clinically. In 2013, Dr. Brown pursued a PhD in Rehabilitation Science in the UB Rehabilitation Science Department, where he would later become a core faculty member in the UB DPT program before completing his PhD in 2020. His dissertation focus was on chronic neck pain’s effect on explicit and implicit motor learning of an upper limb reaching task. Currently, Dr. Brown is responsible for teaching all the musculoskeletal content and pain management content in the first and second year of the UB DPT program. His research is focused on the multidimensional aspects of pain in individuals living with chronic musculoskeletal disorders and how physical therapist can identify tailored interventions to enhance physical capacity. His educational research interests also focus on how to better prepare student physical therapists for the workforce. Dr. Brown is an APTA Board Certified Orthopaedic Specialist and Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy. He is a member of the APTA Pain Special Interest Group, as well as a member of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine’s Pain Networking Group, which he was recently named Chair-Elect. He also serves as the Chair of the Academy of Education’s Social Media Committee.
