Non-traumatic spinal cord injury (NTSCI) refers to a condition in which spinal cord function is impaired due to an underlying medical condition that may be a congenital, genetic disorder or an acquired condition, such as an infection, tumor, or vascular disorder. This type of injury to the spinal cord can lead to motor and sensory deficits that significantly impact a person’s ability to complete daily activities and participate in the community. While originally thought to have a slightly lower prevalence than traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI), prevalence of NTSCI may significantly exceed that of TSCI. In this symposium, we will describe two efforts to better understand the characteristics and outcomes of patients receiving rehabilitation services following a NTSCI.
